Dave Wells, Sidecar Racer
The Sidecar Festival at the Mallory Park circuit in Leicestershire, England is a unique two day event exclusively featuring the sport of sidecar racing. All classes of sidecar road racing are enjoyed by enthusiasts, both competitors and spectators. Vintage outfits, Classics, and the more contemporary Formula classes line up to entertain and thrill.
A great weekend of sport was this year marred by a fatal racing accident on the first day of the event, which claimed the life of 61 year old Yorkshireman, Dave Wells. Dave was passenger for Roy Hanks, another notable sidecar racer, who received minor injuries in the unfortunate incident.
Many tributes have been made in the days following, highlighting Dave Wells' popularity and his worthy racing record, notably in the Isle of Man. All agreed that he was a great competitor, and an all round good guy.
As a tribute to Dave, other competitors slowly paraded around the track in an emotional display of affection for one of their own. A reflection of the friendliness and comradeship amongst this particular aspect of motor sport.
